SPRING/SUMMER/WINTER FRUIT

Description :

The guava is a small tropical fruit about the size of a fist. The many varieties that
are available range in color from greenish-white to yellow to red to purplish-black. The flesh can range from creamy white to red. They tend to be round or pear-shaped with either a rough or smooth outer skin.

The different varieties of this fruit vary in flavor and the amount of seeds within them. The texture of the flesh is similar to a pear. This highly aromatic fruit smells sweet and flowery with musky undertones and taste ranging from sweet to sour.

They are available from June through August and again from November through March.

Selecting:

When selecting this tropical fruit, look for those that are tender, giving to gentle pressure, without any spots.

Avoid any fruit that is mushy, very green or spotted.

Storing and Handling:

When storing, leave them at room temperature until soft and ripe. Refrigerate ripe fruit in a paper or plastic bag for up to approximately two days.

Preparing:

Simply cut in half and scoop out the soft flesh.

Raw: just eat the prepared guava as is for a delicious snack anytime.
