Selecting:
When selecting, choose those that are plump and have a full deep color. They should be firm but not hard to the touch.
Avoid any soft, leaky or moldy berries. Berries that have been picked too early will have the hull attached. These will be very tart and won’t fully ripen.
Storing and Handling:
Blackberries are very perishable and should be used as soon as possible after purchasing. For storing, they should be placed in a single layer in a container lightly covered in the refrigerator. They should be used within one to two days. Do not wash until ready to use.
Preparing:
Wash berries in a bowl of water by swishing them until all dirt and debris is removed. Lift out of the water and gently pat dry with a towel. They are now ready to use.
