Apple Salad

Apples, raisins and walnuts make this simple apple salad a refreshing sweet dish whenever the mood hits.

It's a great salad just as it is but with the easy ingredient exchanges and additions listed below you can add to this salad to make it a little more complex or turn it into something different altogether. Use the menu planner to create a variety of quick meals.

4 Ingredients Needed:

apples - 2 cups diced
(choose your favorite apples)
(red delicious, gala, or fuji apples work well)

raisins - 1/2 cup

walnuts - 1/2 cup chopped

*ground cinnamon - 1 tsp (or to taste)

*Optionally, instead of just cinnamon, you can use our yogurt cinnamon dressing

In a bowl, combine all the fruit salad ingredients. Toss to coat well. You want to distribute the cinnamon throughout the salad ingredients.

Quick Meals - Menu Planner:

** Serve this quick salad recipe on a bed of your favorite salad greens with cheese breadsticks on the side.

** Serve this simple fruit salad layered in parfait glasses. Alternate layers of salad with plain or vanilla yogurt or a combination of sour cream and yogurt together.

** As a dessert, serve this easy fruit salad recipe as a topping over vanilla ice cream add a drizzle of caramel sauce if you like.

Ingredient Exchanges:

Instead of Raisins:
*Dates - 1/2 cup roughly chopped or
*Dried Apricots - (softened in a little water for 1/2 hour) 1/2 cup chopped or
*Raspberries - 1/2 cup

Instead of Walnuts:
*Pecans - 1/2 cup chopped or
*Cashews - 1/2 cup chopped or
*Hazelnuts - 1/2 cup chopped

Instead of Cinnamon:
*Allspice - 1 tsp or
*Nutmeg - 1 tsp or
*Nutmeg and Cinnamon Combination - 1/2 tsp each

*Cheese - 1/2 cup small chunks (try sharp cheddar, smoked gouda, mozzarella or goat cheese)
